Hi, Wolfgang, I'm also having a small nightmare with this. I have a fairly new, HD American television, and I've been told I should just sell it. However, my future wife, a Hungarian who has seen it, told me that 1) TVs are rather expensive there and 2) TV repair guys can make the required changes without the nightmare of a multitude of converters. Also, as far as the voltage, can one just take care of that through a converter one can buy at a normal electronics store? Thanks

Hi Jerome, Hungary is using the TV-System PAL, in the US you are using NTSC.

Depending how old and how sophisticated your TV is, this might be a problem (or not). Your user manual should tell you. In any way, you will have to change the power plug.

A new TV set (flat screen) is now starting around 400 US$, maybe even cheaper.

Hello:

I am about to move to Hungary and I am still trying to decide whether I should sell my TV or bring it with me to Budapest. The voltage is 110-240, so I know the electricity is not an issue, but I am not sure about cable connections. Are there any expats from the US out there who have brought their TV with them? Were you able to get cable television in Hungary on your US TV sets?

Thank you so much for your help!
