There are a lot of great hidden kocsmas here where to meet foreigners or locals. Couple suggestions are Szimpla or Pótkulcs.

I think the best place to look is www.couchsurfers.com. Register, and then join the group 'Budapest'. You will then be flooded with emails detailing a variety of social events taking place on several days of the week. Let me know if you're going down there.ciao
